Some traffic

I was about to compile a mail Kami, but what the hell. Here goes.

As for the final blog, I would like:

  • Antoher look and feel on the shared bookmarks button. The blue one is... ugly.
  • I want to know if you can make sure the forum and primarily the blog has a function for automated pinging. I want to ping the hell out of this baby!
  • Linkback listings, trackbacks, pingbacks - I want it all. Recent comments. Top contributors. Most clicked items. I love that shit.
  • And for God's sake, let's make sure we remove as many nofollow tags as possible. The spam-problem is not my problem, just try to find a compromise. Actually, Joomla ought to be supporting Akismet, right?
  • I want to have links to all good horror forums and all prominent horror bloggers that we like. (I don't care if it doesn't look so flashy.) Remember: There are no competitors, just sharing friends with cool platforms. End of story.
  • We will all be reading up on horror blogs as we move along. I know I will, and I will be using Google Reader. I will be sharing the best items I find and I want fans to be able to RSS-feed into this via the site. Maybe we can merge some feeds via Yahoo pipes for some premium content for the premium crowd? Let's start thinking about this.
  • Since I'm going to be reviewing top horror bloggers, I might just as well review them. Maybe there is a plugin for ratings to add to the blog?
  • I want a thepactproject.com e-mail-adress as soon as I come up with a cool handle (any ideas anyone, by the way?)
  • This thing were the blog index page shortens the stories á la"read more". It's not a great idea if you want anyone to add a Youtube-video for instance. And blog posts aren't journalistic texts, so there are no guarantees the most important stuff is visible in the first paragraph.
Now, this is a start. I know resources are scarce, but we can soon startr to beg for more money as soon as the new site goes live!

State of the web

  • There's a forum for these things. What you write in the blog effectively is transmitted all over the place, and I would say that this is noise to anyone but us. Please copy/paste your requests to the forums and we´ll beat out the 'internal' community matters there, rather than bore those out there whom we're trying to convince. Preferably one thread for each issue. I say we all use the forum extensively for internal stuff and email just for classified stuff.
  • This is Drupal. It will stay Drupal.
  • Links to other horror places are to my understanding managed by the Community Manager and are filed under the meny entry currently named Evil Feed Aggregator. Old style "link list" also possible but I would find that out of fashion and a waste of time.
  • Button along with overhaul of the presentation is planned for next week.

Few quick notes:

  • I say if resources are tight, don't waste time on changing buttons because they are "ugly". Reckless use of Sir Webmaster. Even if it all boils down to changing an icon.
  • As for handle: how about "Evangelist". It's been so overused that it's almost back in the cool room.
  • Joomla-wooot? This isn't Joomla. Or I've died and lost all my coding savvy.
  • No-follow. Agreed! And resulting spam issue: Why not use captcha? Must work for this CMS, too.
  • Read more-functionality. Not journalistic texts, but even blogposts are not immune to skimming. I don't see the point of clogging up the frontpage with the full post. Compromise: Extend minimum chars before it cuts the text perhaps?

Go ahead, flame away ;-)

Cool

A few even quicker:

  • My feedback was for the blog inside the son-to-be-launched site. This blog is what it is and I totally agree that we shouldn't waste any more energy on this platform. But the one we are going to use is Joomla, right? Or I've been misinformed. Anyway.
  • Compromise: All right, then.
Wow. This was transparent. Sort of a rush, really. Was it good for you as well?

One step behind the big fish.

You guys need to tell me these things so I don't look a complete ass when I comment stuff and you're talking about something completely else. Had no idea we're going into Joomla for the live-site. Heavens, Dorothy, but why oh why?

And if that's the case: I'm with you on the blog thing.

Good for me? Erm. Lemme think. It was all over sooo soooon! *whine*
