Help us decide the powers and origins of Daemons.
General thesis:
1 There are enteties from other worlds. Good and evil ones, angels or demons.
2 The human body can be seen as a vessel. It can be host to entities, that is the origin of saints and stories of possession but also clairvoyance and schizophrenia.
3 Especially evil entities (demons) regularly try and cross over to our world, taking over some poor persons body. Their success and timing depend on factors such as: (i don't know, help me...)
4 Depending on aforementioned factors the demon retains more or less of it's supernatural powers.
4A A demon can kill you if "it" can bring the vessel (possessed person) within eyesight of it's intended victim.
4B A demon or angel can always reach you in your dreams. Dreaming is a partly inter-worldly phenomenon. :-) (better definition please)
5 The powers of a demon are greater or lesser during breif periods of time depending on for example star constellations or maybe time cycles.
Thanks for suggestions:)

Demon Powers & Strange
Well of course the obvious thing is to have the demons powers grow and wane with star constellations/moon phases or lay lines of the earth. Or maybe it's more dependent of what's going on with the people involved, that'd make them more responsible and tangled up in events. Have you had a look at "Strange"? A nice little series from BBC with actors Richard Coyle (lövely, you've probably seen him in "Coupling") Samantha Womack (in a fitted nurse's uniform...) and Ian Richardson (who is deliciously evil as bishop). It wasn't made a lot of fuss of at the time due to some politic intrigue at the BBC I think, it deserves a lot better. Strange is about John Strange who used to be a priest but who was disordained when he started taking demons seriously. Check it out. Also it is a good reminder that the less we see of a thing the scarier it is.
Strange about strange
Thank you for the Strange-tips. It sounds really interesting, pity I can't find it anywhere.
Sure we'll use the "demonpowerwindow" thing in one way ore another, so the demon needs to act before his powers diminish again. I like big things like starconstellations, just need to find OUR take on it kind of. Maybe we just mention that there is a window of extra powers or such, not exactly what it is.

Motivation of the demon?
I think it would be a good idea to also discuss the demons motivation to cross over to our world. Is it just pure evil or does it have a purpose? Is it a one man show or is it cooperating with other forces in an operation that demands it to cross over?
One option is of course to just decide that it is evil. However, I think it might give the story a greater depth if the demon has some kind of motivation.
Just a few ideas from a noob!
Hello
Im new here and this is my first post.
Regarding nr 3 and 4.
Maybe people can have a natural "resistance" to demons or something. If you are gonna go all the way with this.....then god gave us our free will and so. The demon need to break that resistance and get the host in the right state of mind. Nightmares (and time) could be a very good way of braking us down. But the demon should fear something if it failes, so they just cant just try every day until they succed!
And if they succed, the demons powers should not be more potent then the host could ever be. You can only fit so much into a human soul/lifeforce or spirit.
Just a few ideas. Hope you dont think im crazy or anything : )
Free will
In the case of free will it would also be room for a character that wants to be adopted by the demon in order to realize some wish. A human antagonist in alliance with the demon could cause different kinds of trouble for the protagonist than the demon (more human kinds, like shutting somebody in a room or making scary phone calls - and could be like, lurking in the woods).
